Wing Chun is the most popular form of Chinese Kung Fu in the world today, with over four million practitioners. The art as it is presently understood has been handed down from teacher to student for more than three hundred years.
Until now, no one has ever stepped back and taken a critical look at why this art’s techniques are presented and performed the way they are. This book, by Wing Chun master Danny Xuan and martial-arts authority John Little, is the first to decipher these techniques that until now have been encrypted within this art.
Xuan and Little reveal how Wing Chun was designed holistically, based on the laws of physics, human nature, and biomechanics. It was also designed with economy, efficiency, and productivity in mind.
Unlike other martial arts, Wing Chun doesn’t focus on making a person larger, more rugged, acrobatic or animal-like; rather, it focuses on making optimal use of one’s own bodily structure and power potential by applying the sciences of biomechanics and physics. Thus, it is possible for males and females of all ages and sizes to excel in this art.
The Tao of Wing Chun provides a readable, authoritative means of cultivating personal protection skills, enhanced flexibility, improved coordination, greater stamina, and physical and mental fitness while simultaneously cultivating humility, focus, determination, self-confidence, character, camaraderie, and deep inner strength. Foremost, this book offers the reader the means by which to apply Wing Chun principles in daily life.
Enhanced by forty-eight full-color illustrations, The Tao of Wing Chun will fascinate, educate, and entertain a wide range of readers—from beginner to master.

"Very comprehensive, well explained and documented points of view on which I can agree from my own 25-year experience. Some passages may need to be read more than once to clearly understand them though. Co-authored by John Little who has had in-depth access to Bruce Lee's notes and writings and has published many books on behalf of the Bruce Lee estate. Not for the ones who have the illusion that they can learn the art from a book. But well worth buying if you have been practicing Wing Chun for a while and therefore have an understanding of what Danny Xuan is writing about."

The Tao of Wing Chun The History and Principles of China Most Explosive Martial Art John Little Danny Xuan 9781510723177 Books Reviews
- The TAO OF WING CHUN by Sifu Danny Xuan is by far the best book out there on Wing Chun, period. A high quality hardcover, well produced, it has some of the best observations I have ever read. I am a student of Wing Chun and after reading this soon to be classic, I felt like there was something missing from all the other books on Wing Chun. It has great photos in it, but most of it is excellent teachings and observations that most books don't get into. Just Youtube Danny's name and there are some fantastic videos of Sifu using his art. His theoretical knowledge of Wing Chun is huge and he can put it all into practice too. It is pure Wing Chun, stripped of all non-essentials. There are some great interviews that explain what he is about. You feel like you just met a great master and this shines through his book.
He has another book planned for the Siu Nim Tao form that will go where other book haven't. The TAO OF WING CHUN is a book to absorb, not just read, Fascinating!!! Someone finally wrote a book to challenge all the so called teachers that have watered down the teachings of Ip Man.
This is a must have volume for any martial art library.
Thank you Sifu Xuan for the quality of your teachings. - Much Goodness. Inspired myself, and subsequently my family (7 of us!) to switch to the Wing Chun system as a pragmatic basis for self defense (10 years of tai chi, ba gua, and hsing yi previously) I still practice my "roots," but Wing Chun should cover 99% of the most likely scenarios I can imagine my children and wife encountering, and so that is what we practice together. Excellent pictures and diagrams reinforce the explanations.
- A very erudite work which describes the true essence of Wing Chun. The authors explore the history, concepts and applications of Wing Chun. However, this is a book about strategy - not tactics. It is not a manual on how to do WC techniques - it is about underlying principles and really does explain the 'Tao' of WC. In this sense, it is more valuable to the more advanced practitioner of WC. Indeed, it is a book that you will continue to refer to as your knowledge increases and as further subtleties of this martial art become apparent to you.
- An explanation of the structural mechanics and principles that is not often taught by instructors today. The physics and structural approach to momentum generation, interception, and manipulation is the key to understanding the handling of the high speed exchange of momentum that occurs in a human fight. Understand these concepts, principles, and behaviors of force under angular manipulation, and you can strip away the nonessential elements of your training, and apply this provable scientific knowledge to your art of choice.
- This is an excellent general reference of the philosophy, history and tactics of Wing Chun. Most elegantly covered is the Taoist philosophy that governs the dance of this martial art. The whole is broken down into two halves- yang (force) and yin (deflective softening )accompanied simultaneously by yang. These forces stick to each other in an effort to meld and become whole.
During the physical trial of making these moves a mindless midnight dance the mind of the practitioner becomes occupied with the same dance within the openness of his own spirit. The balancing of self begins.
The technical aspects of the art are covered in so much as they illustrate the purpose of the movements. Great detail of various techniques is not given.
Strongly recommend this book for those who want to go deeper into the philosophy of this unique martial art. - Very comprehensive, well explained and documented points of view on which I can agree from my own 25-year experience. Some passages may need to be read more than once to clearly understand them though. Co-authored by John Little who has had in-depth access to Bruce Lee's notes and writings and has published many books on behalf of the Bruce Lee estate. Not for the ones who have the illusion that they can learn the art from a book. But well worth buying if you have been practicing Wing Chun for a while and therefore have an understanding of what Danny Xuan is writing about.
- This is great if you're already seriously practicing Wing Chun. Pretty refreshing take. Gets a tad technical, but the foundations are solid. I would recommend this is if you're seeking a little more information that isn't your standard "This is what Tan Sau looks like" type of book.
- Very well researched book on this subject. The author has also read many other sources on combat/martial arts and quotes them frequently. Well done.
